Best password manager for families, and who gets a seat
Bitwarden Families covers 6 people for $47.88 a year, the cheapest list price I could confirm. 1Password costs more and adds a Secret Key to your master password.

| Product | Best for | Per month, yearly plan | The deciding fact, and the catch | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitwarden | Best for most families | $1.65 | Families covers 6 users for $47.88 a year. Free sharing stops at one other user, so a household needs the paid plan. | Visit |
| 1Password | Best for a Secret Key | $2.99 | Families covers 5 users at $4.49 a month on the promo, $5.99 at list. The promo is for the first 12 months of new customers. | Visit |
| Keeper Personal | Best for private vaults | $4.41 | The family plan lists five private vaults and shared folders. The price on Keeper's page didn't render, so the family price is unconfirmed. | Visit |
Buy through a link here and the vendor pays this site a commission. Your price doesn't change. How that works.
Buy Bitwarden Families. It covers 6 users for $47.88 a year (Bitwarden pricing, checked Nov 1, 2026). Spend more only if you want something specific.
Per seat, that's $7.98 a year. Of the family plans with a price I can confirm, nobody else gets close.
What the others charge
1Password Families covers 5 people. The promo is $4.49 a month for the first 12 months, then $5.99 at list, per the 1Password pricing page. At list that's $71.88 a year for one seat fewer than Bitwarden. Its one real difference is the Secret Key that sits next to your master password. If a family member loses their devices, that key is also the thing you'll be hunting for. Our 1Password review goes through it.
NordPass has a Family plan for up to 6 users, per Security.org (updated Apr 17, 2026). Its price isn't confirmed yet: Nord's site returned an error when I read it, and renewal isn't stated. Check the checkout before you count on it being cheap.
Dashlane's Friends & Family plan covers up to 10 people and includes a VPN, per Security.org (updated Apr 17, 2026). The same source says Dashlane dropped its free plan on September 16, 2025. Its price isn't confirmed yet.
Keeper's page names five private vaults and shared folders for its family plan. The family price was a blank placeholder when I read it. Its single-user Personal plan is $4.41 a month billed annually (checked November 1, 2026), which is a number for one person, not a household.
Who actually needs a seat
A seat is a separate vault with its own master password. That's the point of a family plan: a teenager's logins stay theirs, and a shared folder holds the wifi and streaming accounts.
Free doesn't do this. Bitwarden's free plan shares with one other user. So two adults can get by at $0, and a household of four can't.
Count heads before you count dollars:
- 2 adults, no shared logins: Bitwarden free, one seat each.
- 2 adults and 2 teens: Bitwarden Families.
- 5 people who want a polished app: 1Password, and accept $5.99 after year one.

The cheapest-wrong-answer problem
Promos expire. 1Password's $4.49 becomes $5.99, a 33% jump after 12 months. Bitwarden's page shows no month-to-month option at all, so you pay $47.88 up front.
Compare the year-two price, not the headline. Bitwarden's page shows no promo to expire, which makes it the easiest price to trust. Browse every manager in the password manager catalog.
